Kersting Heads Tribune Broadcasting

No surprise here: the Tribune Co. has tapped an insider to take over its broadcasting division. Jerry Kersting replaces Ed Wilson, who departed last week.

As president, Kersting will oversee the company's 23 stations and recently re-branded WGN America cable outlet. He has been COO of Tribune Broadcasting for about five months and was a company executive vice president prior to that post.

Wilson had been Tribune chief revenue officer and head of broadcasting. He led the TV businesses since early 2008.

Tribune CEO Randy Michaels stated of Kersting: "He's smart, innovative and driven -- our stations have been expanding news, adding new programming and building audience."

Kersting also has a lengthy background in radio, serving as CFO at Clear Channel from 1999 to 2008.

WGN America is in 72 million homes and is known for airing Chicago Cubs games nationally. Tribune's broadcast group includes 14 CW affiliates -- including ones in the country's top three markets -- the Fox affiliates in San Diego and Sacramento and the ABC station in New Orleans.
