Captain Morgan, 'Maxim' Host Birthday Bashes

  • May 6, 2010
Captain Morgan rum and Maxim magazine will host parties across the country on May 15 to celebrate the "375-ish" birthday of "Captain Morgan" -- actually, the birth year of Sir Henry Morgan, the 17th-century Caribbean privateer who inspired the brand's name and iconic mascot.

The main promotional events will be held in Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Tampa Bay, Fla., and Minneapolis.

In addition to Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum and Lime Bite cocktail specials, the events will feature birthday cakes bearing the mascot's visage, created by TLC "Cake Boss" reality show star Buddy Valastro of Hoboken, N.J.-based Carlo's Bakery. In Philadelphia, the cake-cutting ceremony will feature appearances by "captains of industry" from entertainment, music, athletics and public service organizations.

Many of the brand's retail accounts across the U.S. will hold birthday-themed events.

The events are being promoted through Captain Morgan's U.S. Facebook page, in the "Stupid Fun" area of Maxim.com, and through a full-page advertorial in Maxim's May issue.

In addition, Break Media has created a humorous video featuring "The Captain" and his Morganettes, which will launch on a custom channel on May 14, for distribution across the Break.com men's entertainment network.--Karlene Lukovitz
