Publicis Passes On Grey, Leaves WPP The Likely Suitor

In an interview Tuesday with French daily newspaper Le Figaro, Maurice Levy, CEO of Publicis took his agency holding company out of the running for Grey Worldwide. Citing "strategic" reasons, Levy said Publicis is not interested in making a bid for Grey, parent of MediaCom, which has put itself on the block. To date, WPP chairman Sir Martin Sorrell has been the only suitor to express an interest. Analysts had speculated on Publicis being the best fit with Grey, because the two agency companies share a common, major client, Procter & Gamble Co.
