IVillage Names SVP And General Manager

IVillage on Monday named Mike Skagerlind as its new senior vice president and general manager.

Skagerlind comes from Barnes & Noble.com, where he served as vice president and head of digital media and GM of the company's Sparknotes.com unit.

"We have many opportunities on the horizon," Skagerlind said of iVillage. Beyond user engagement initiatives, that's as specific as Skagerlind would get on Monday.

The NBC Universal-owned iVillage has recently sought to delve deeper into specific content categories. Last September, it launched a new entertainment site focused on celebrity news, movies and television shows for women and their children.

Last October, meanwhile, iVillage relaunched its food site with what it called a "real-life" approach to how women and moms consume, shop and "integrate" food into their lives.

Slated to begins at iVillage early July, Skagerlind will be responsible for iVillage's strategy, site development, content, product development and technology. Skagerlind will also be charged with building partner relationships within the advertising community and growing profitability across multiple revenue streams.

Skagerlind will report directly to Jodi Kahn, executive vice president of iVillage, who says the unit is doing very well.

"iVillage has had an exceptional year, with our 34-million strong audience and over 50-plus new advertisers," said Kahn.

Skagerlind joined BN.com in 2007 and led the development and integration of original book-centric content for BN.com, in an effort to create deeper user engagement for site visitors and customers.

While at BN.com, Skagerlind managed the Barnes & Noble Review, its online literary and arts journal, and also the Barnes & Noble Studio, a video destination for book aficionados. He also served as GM of Sparknotes.com, an ad-supported online study resource for high school and college students.

Prior to BN.com, Skagerlind had a 12-year career with Nickelodeon, serving as a digital and cable television executive for Nickelodeon UK, Nickelodeon Australia and Nickelodeon Online.
