Telemundo will capitalize on its position within NBC Universal to carry an NFL game this fall in three key Hispanic markets. The network will offer a Sept. 26 Miami-New York Jets game on stations it owns in Miami and New York, as well as Los Angeles, which has the largest Hispanic population in the country.

The game will be the national Sunday night game on NBC, but offered in Spanish on Telemundo as a special Hispanic Heritage Month broadcast.

This is Telemundo's first "Sunday Night Football" broadcast. The network will broadcast the game using the NBC game feed, but will use its own announcers, including Jessi Losada, Rene Girardo and Edgar Lopez.

The Jets are quarterbacked by Mark Sanchez, who is from the Los Angeles area and is Mexican-American.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell indicated the broadcast will be part of the league's efforts to expand its fan base and build interest among the growing Latino population.

"We are committed to delivering NFL content to our Hispanic fans and have an extensive reach in both English and Spanish through multiple platforms such as TV, radio, online and in print," Goodell stated.

Telemundo competitor Univision and the NFL jointly operate NFLatino.com.

Telemundo, which is owned by NBCU, has run NFL programming before, including weekly NFL features and Super Bowl specials. All NBC Sunday games are available in Spanish via SAP with Telemundo broadcasters.

The NFL said regular-season games last year averaged 1.1 million Hispanic viewers, a 31% increase from the year before as NFL ratings increased across the board.
