Hasbro Sales Down, Profits Up

  • July 19, 2010

Hasbro, Inc. says its second quarter net earnings rose 11% to $43.6 million, compared with $39.3 million in the same period a year ago, although sales fell 7% to $737.8 million compared to $792.2 million a year ago.

The company attributed the decrease to tough comparisons to last year's results, which were buoyed by sales of products linked to both the "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers" movies. That led a steep fall -- 34% -- in sales in its boys' toys category, to $238.8 million, while girls' toys were flat at $133.2 million.

In games & puzzles, sales jumped 22% to $262.2 million; while sales in its preschool category gained 32% to $103.5 million.
