P&G Re-Ups With NFL, Taps Jerry Rice

  • August 3, 2010

Procter & Gamble has tapped legendary National Football League wide receiver Jerry Rice as spokesperson for year two of its multi-year deal with the League.

The company, which became one of the league's top-shelf sponsors last year with its "Official Locker Room Products" status, will support Febreze, Gillette, Head & shoulders, Old Spice, OTC and Vicks with a new program, "Take It to the House."

The company says it will do consumer-engagement elements, PR, social media presence, retail executions and a charity component. P&G says it will promote seven other P&G brands with retail initiatives.

The effort includes a dedicated page on Facebook, www.facebook.com/ TakeItToTheHouse, that will have content on how to prep for a game (as a viewer), and fantasy football tips from the P&G Blogger Fantasy League, which is comprised of twelve top sports bloggers playing on NFL.com's new Fantasy Football platform.

The Facebook element also includes a photo contest dangling meet-and-greets with retired NFL legends, annual supplies of select P&G products, a series of $10,000 donations to local health and wellness organizations on behalf of NFL PLAY 60 (the League's exercise-promotion program for kids) and a grand prize trip to the 2011 Pro Bowl in Hawaii.

There is also a mobile texting program that will allow fans the chance to win other great prizes throughout the season.
