General Motors Posts Strong July

Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac increased sales by 25% combined to 199,432 units in July, per GM, which says its Buick and Cadillac brands each sold more than twice as many vehicles in July, compared with the same month a year ago.

The company also says July is the 10th straight month of year-over-year sales gains. Year-to-date sales of its four brands are up 31%, with the retail component of that up 18%. Buick posted sales of 16,799 vehicles in July, a 137% increase over last year. Cadillac reported sales of 14,919 units, a 142% improvement versus July last year.

The company says the two brands saw the highest sales totals since August 2008. Chevrolet total sales in July increased 12% versus July last year, and GMC saw sales rise 27%. The company says sales were boosted by cars like Chevrolet Camaro and Equinox; Buick LaCrosse and Regal; GMC Terrainl and Cadillac SRX, CTS Coupe and CTS Wagon.

Per the Detroit automaker, total combined sales for the vehicles rose 77% in July, and 211% in the first seven months this year. General Motors has been having strong results with its crossover vehicles.

The company says its Equinox, HHR and Traverse; Buick Enclave, GMC Terrain and Acadial and Cadillac SRX increased saw combined sales increase of 41% in July and 73% so far this year. In pickup trucks, the Chevrolet Silverado and Avalanche, and the GMC Sierra, were up 22% last month and 14% year-to-date.
