Apple, Google Systems Dominate App Markets

Two mobile operating systems, Apple's iOS and Google's Android, will account for nearly four-fifths of all application downloads in 2010, predicts ABI Research.

Those numbers are driven by availability, variety and novelty in both of the companies' application marketplaces, according to ABI, which noted that while Apple's App Store is unmatched by any other smartphone platform, Android has taken off in 2010.

Offerings on other platforms -- such as BlackBerry's App Store and Nokia's Ovi Store -- don't have the same variety, according to the company.
