Jupiter's Top 50 in October

Jupiter Media Metrix released their Media Metrix U.S. Top 50 Web and digital media property ratings for October 2001. Among notable trends is the representation of patriotic and religion sites within the Media Metrix Top Newcomers, the monthly listing of sites that entered the ratings for the first time with a minimum of 500,000 unique visitors. Among the 24 Top Newcomers, five were patriotic sites and two were religion sites that reflected the public mood following the September 11 terrorist attacks. Notable properties to break into this month's Top 50 ranking include: humor site Madblast.com at number 26 with 11.5 million unique visitors; United Online Inc., the new consolidation for Juno Online Services and NetZero Sites, at number 31 with 10.8 million unique visitors; and Postmastergeneral.com, an online marketing site, at number 45 with 9.2 million unique visitors. Among the top gaining categories in October 2001, three were retail related and three were entertainment related. The top three according to their increase in audience reach were: retail-movie sites, which increased 8.6 points to 24.6% reach; entertainment-games sites, which increased 5.5 points to 57.2% reach; and retail-mall sites, which increased 4.9 points to 25.7% reach.
