Bing Sponsors Katy Perry 'Tap Tap' Game

In its tireless efforts to market Bing, Microsoft is turning to the Tap Tap Revenge game franchise to promote its search engine. With the launch of "Katy Perry Revenge by Bing" by Disney Mobile unit Tapulous Thursday, the search brand becomes the first title sponsor of a Tap Tap game.

The free, one-song game for the iPhone and iPod touch features "Firework," the latest single off Perry's No. 1 album "Teenage Dream," a week prior to its radio debut. The game lets players choose from assorted Katy Perry-inspired themes and includes a "Lyrics by Bing" search box built into the app to search the singer's song lyrics. Users can also click through to use the full Bing search service.

The original $4.99 version of the Katy Perry Tap Tap game was released in August, packaging all of the pop star's hit songs including "I Kissed A Girl," "Hot n Cold," and "California Gurls." Perry's is among the latest in a series of artist-themed versions of the wildly popular Tap Tap music game including Nirvana, Kings of Leon, Lady Gaga and Metallica.

Disney acquired Tapulous last summer as part of its push into the gaming space which also included its $763 million purchase of Playdom, maker of popular social games on Facebook and MySpace. At the time of the Disney deal in July, Tapulous founder Bart Decrem said the Tap Tap Revenge series had generated 35 million downloads and a billions songs played.
