Yoplait, Kroger Leverage Facebook For Cause

  • October 15, 2010
To mark the 10th anniversary of their partnership to help fight breast cancer, Yoplait and Kroger supermarkets are running a special Facebook campaign in addition to their traditional annual fund-raising efforts.

For every person who becomes a new fan on Facebook.com/sharingcourage during October, Yoplait will donate $1, up to $150,000, to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. As of Oct. 15, more than 40,000 fans had signed up.

To kick off the effort, Kroger's Cincinnati headquarters building was illuminated with pink spotlights and draped with 150-foot pink banners urging Cincinnati residents and others to become fans of the cause-dedicated Facebook page.

Each year, Kroger runs a "Giving Hope a Hand" campaign in which Kroger stores and key suppliers, including Yoplait parent General Mills, pledge $3 million to support breast cancer initiatives throughout the country.

Over the past decade, through a Yoplait/Kroger program, "Kroger Salutes Survivors," the partners have donated more than $1 million to local Komen affiliates. The campaign includes fund-raising efforts in stores and at 17 local Komen Race for the Cure events.

In addition, for the 12th consecutive year, Yoplait is running its "Save Lids to Save Lives" program. This month, Yoplait products in participating retailers nationwide bear special pink lids. For each pink lid sent in by consumers by Dec. 31, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to Komen Race for the Cure -- up to $1.6 million, with a guaranteed donation of $500,000.
