TCM Series Salutes 'Moguls and Movie Stars'

  • October 28, 2010
Beginning Nov. 1, TCM kicks off an extraordinary month-long salute to cinema with the seven-part documentary series "Moguls and Movie Stars - The History of Hollywood." Narrated by actor Christopher Plummer, the series charts the rise of motion pictures from the early silents, which birthed the genius of Chaplin and Keaton, to the 1970s, when independent filmmakers and films like "Bonnie and Clyde" signaled the end of the fabled studio system. Each installment offers rare footage and photos of the moguls who established the medium, such as the Warner Bros., Louis B. Mayer, David O. Selznick, Walt Disney and Irving Thalberg. From its peep-show pioneers to its rebellious Seventies, the series showcases an American phenomenon: the movie industry.
