Facebook Announces Mobile Platform

  • November 3, 2010
Facebook announced the launch of its mobile platform with the aim of allowing developers to build social elements into apps across different mobile platforms and devices. The effort involves debuting new APIs so app developers can get access to information like a user's location, whether on iPhone, Android, RIM etc. The mobile push has three main initiatives: Single sign-on - quick log-in without any typing from mobile apps on devices; Location APIs - building Facebook location services into any mobile app; Deals platform - location-based platform for local stores to offer deals to people nearby, with 22 initial retail partners, including The Gap, The North Face, Palms and the Golden State Warriors. --Mark Walsh
