Senior Radio Network Turns One

  • January 23, 2002
Golden Age Entertainment, a satellite-delivered radio network heard daily by more than 106,000 Adults 50+, will celebrate its first anniversary in February. The network is broadcasted to a captive audience on a floor-model console radio positioned in the lounge or recreation area at 1,000 active senior centers in 85 radio markets. Golden Age Entertainment is a division of Networx Corp., which has been providing a service called Companion Radio to nursing homes and assisted living facilities since 1992. However, Golden Age targets the young and active segment of the senior market. Their audiences of Adults 50-75, live in their own homes, often still drive their own cars and do not live at the centers. The advertiser-supported programming – heard in half-hour blocks, Monday-Friday, 9 AM-5 PM– is a mix of big band standards, 50s & 60s classics, crossover country, and Broadway show tunes, featuring performers such as Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Kenny Rogers.
