Visa has jumped on the cyber-deal bandwagon with a two-week promotion with LivingSocial.com.
Beginning today, LivingSocial features Visa Free Deal Days, which gives Visa cardholders in select U.S. markets the opportunity to buy a LivingSocial deal and receive a second one for free to give to a friend or family member.
The Living Social custom program is one of many innovative initiatives that Visa is undertaking in the digital space, said Amy Michael, Visa's head of global e-commerce marketing. "We have significantly increased our digital media spend over the last couple of years and custom programs like this are an important part of our media plan as they reach consumers when they are engaging with transactions," Michael tells Marketing Daily.
Visa Free Deal Days is live in New York City; Buffalo, N.Y.; San Francisco; San Antonio, Texas; Houston; Cleveland and Akron-Canton, Ohio; Miami; Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and southern Connecticut.
Led and planned by LivingSocial's exclusive advertising sales partner, appssavvy, the Visa Free Deal Days campaign runs through Dec. 13.
The campaign demonstrates how a global brand is engaging socially in a unique and innovative way during the online holiday shopping season, said Chris Cunningham, co-founder and CEO of appssavvy.
"What's incredibly smart about this effort is that it rethinks the traditional delivery and reception of advertising by identifying the social activity taking place and then brings value to the equation," Cunningham tells Marketing Daily. "Visa Free Deal Days gives Visa the power to share these great, local experiences with our customers, who are then able to invite their friends and family along for free."
LivingSocial offers daily deals via email and on its Web site of up to 70% on restaurants, spas, sporting events, hotels and other local attractions in major markets. Washington, D.C.-based LivingSocial has a subscriber base of 10 million.
The value of the complimentary deal voucher (up to $100) will be deducted from a single purchase on LivingSocial.com only. This promotion does not apply on purchases made from iPhone, iPad, or Android apps or from LivingSocial's mobile Web site. There is a limit of one complimentary deal voucher per Visa card per merchant.
