Honda Launches Naughty-Or-Nice App On Facebook

  • December 9, 2010
Honda has launched a Facebook extension of its new "Happy Honda Days" campaign. The effort features a "NaughtyOrNice-a-tron" app at apps.facebook.com/naughtyornice-a-tron. The automaker says the app, via AOR Santa Monica-based RPA, scours a user's past year of Facebook activity, including status updates, comments and likes. Then am algorithm evaluates the person's language usage and searches for key behaviors to determine if the user has been "naughty or nice." Users are then encouraged to post or share their score and can see their friends' scores if they have used the app.

As the app processes a user's data, the "NaughtyOrNice-a-tron" machine animates, updates the user on its progress, and displays some of the naughty or nice items it uncovers.  The app's vintage-electronics, paper model look was created by artist Dan McPharlin.  Landscape and scenery elements were designed by LA-based design firm Buck, which also did the papier mache motif for the "Happy Honda" ad campaign.

To drive traffic to the app, promotional units will be placed on the Honda properties (e.g. ShopHonda.com), emails sent to Honda opt-ins, display ads on top auto shopping sites and Facebook posts on Honda Facebook pages, per Honda.
