Verizon Sponsors Super Bowl Parties

Verizon Game Day Party Verizon FiOS TV users are hosting 1,000 house parties on Super Bowl Sunday.

The company is sponsoring the parties for customers so their friends and neighbors can experience "the FiOS difference."

Verizon is supplying each of the hosts with a party pack to help kick off a festive viewing party and to show off FiOS TV's picture and sound quality. The pack includes a digital picture frame to show off the event, as well as football party favors and decorations.

About 4,800 customers applied to host a party before the Dec. 15 entry deadline. This is the third time Verizon has teamed with Irvington, N.Y.-based House Party, an experiential marketing company, to recruit FiOS TV fans to host simultaneous in-home get-togethers. The first was last year's Super Bowl and the second was the FIFA World Cup final on July 11.

Sponsoring the house parties is more effective in reaching customers than a TV ad, says Patricia Foster, director of consumer marketing for Verizon.

"One of our goals is to create ways for people to experience FiOS services live, whether it's in a store, at an event, at one of our mall kiosks, or -- as in the case of our Game Day promotion -- at a customer's home," Foster tells Marketing Daily. "The amazing picture and sound quality of FiOS TV and the incredible speeds with FiOS Internet can't be replicated in a TV commercial. Once people encounter FiOS live, they see that it is truly the best TV and Internet experience out there, and they're more likely to consider making the switch."

In addition to airing games in both HD and SD, Verizon offers FiOS TV subscribers an expansive football offering, including the NFL RedZone channel. This channel takes viewers around the league every Sunday afternoon for live coverage of critical plays when any team is inside its opponent's 20-yard line.

A pro Football Widget offers easy access to NFL stats and the RedZone channel. The widget gives subscribers access to rosters, player details and headline news from around the NFL. Customers who subscribe to the NFL RedZone channel also can use the widget to set on-screen alerts for whenever a team is moving into the 20-yard line.

In addition, customers can make game-day watching interactive by using Verizon's Twitter and Facebook widgets. By logging on to either widget right on the TV screen, viewers can provide their own game commentary each week and correspond with followers.
