NBC’s Friday night drama “Providence” will end its five-season run with a two-hour finale Dec. 20. At the same time, NBC has ordered nine more episodes of two Sunday night dramas, “American Dreams”
and “Boomtown,” giving both shows the approval to go the full season. "Providence” debuted January 1999 on 8-9 p.m. Fridays and won its time slot among adults 18-49 in three of its four full seasons.
It led the time period among adults 25-54, key female demographics and total viewers all four full seasons. NBC said the run-up to the Dec. 20 series finale will include guest appearances by Lauren
Holly and Betty White plus a musical performance of the song “Forgive” by country music singer Rebecca Lynn Howard. “Boomtown” and “American Dreams,” which premiered with the new season in September,
have helped boost NBC’s standing to first in the ratings among viewers 18 to 49, up from third the same time last season.
