The Ohio Tourism Division is partnering with Groupon to promote Ohio Tourism Week by offering a slew of tourism-related deals across the state.
From May 9 to 15, all offers in Groupon's seven Ohio markets will be sponsored by the tourism division and will feature Ohio attractions, restaurants, lodging and events. This program, in conjunction with National Tourism Week, includes Groupon's markets Akron-Canton, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo and Youngstown.
This is the first statewide tourism group that Groupon has worked with, according to a spokesperson with Ohio Tourism Division. However, the coupon service has worked with city tourism departments previously, according to Groupon spokesperson Julie Anne Mossler. "We also did Santa Monica week and West Hollywood week, to name a few," Mossler tells Marketing Daily. "Tourism centers are the unofficial historians of every city -- it's a great way to celebrate iconic local merchants."
Upcoming deals in for the Ohio week include museum passes, lodging options, restaurant offers and tickets to musical programs, sporting events and local festivals. The program is designed to bring tourism experiences to consumers throughout Ohio and surrounding states for the upcoming spring and summer travel seasons, says Ohio Tourism Division Director Amir Eylon.
The timing of the promotion coincides with when consumers are planning their summer travels, Eylon adds.
The Ohio Tourism Division will promote the offers and encourage consumers to sign up for Groupon on its Web site at DiscoverOhio.com, as well as on Twitter (@DiscoverOhio) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/discoverohio) as well as on its blog at DiscoveringOhio.com.
Using the principles of collective buying, Groupon negotiates discounts with businesses. Groupon subscribers get free daily emails alerting them to the deals. The deals are activated only when a minimum number of people agree to buy, encouraging customers to share the promotion with family and friends.
