Amazon may be getting into the tablet market.

According to theSeattle Times (quoting Taiwanese tech publication DigiTimes), Amazon has contracted Quanta Computer to build tablet PCs and reduce the Kindle's market price. According to the publications, the new device will have touchscreens and perhaps color displays.

The Times notes the piece could be misinformed and that Quanta could be building the next version of Amazon's Kindle (which would work like a tablet, but still primarily be a reading device). Even if that's the case, it would put the Kindle more on track with Barnes & Noble's Nook color, which recently adopted Apps and some tablet-like functions (and is also the subject of a new marketing campaign).
