FOX Sports and Sporting News have merged their online resources to create one of the Internet's largest sports operations, the companies announced yesterday. Within a few weeks, FOXSports.com and SportingNews.com will become what a joint press release called "jointly branded web sites" that will be "tightly linked." "This arrangement gives sports fans the best of both worlds," said Sporting News president and CEO Rick Allen in a press release. "Over the past decade, FOX Sports has revolutionized the way we watch and think about sports. For more than a century, Sporting News has helped fans see a different game with incisive analysis, center-of-the-action perspective, and the most fun and flexible fantasy games on the web." FOX's site will offer sports news and opinion from both companies' experts, while Sporting News.com will feature premium sports fantasy games and content. Fox Sports Interactive Media will operate FOXSports.com, and its ad sales team will be primarily responsible for selling advertising across both sites. Online ad revenue will be shared by both companies.
