Beck's 'Truth' Hits Web TV

Glenn-Beck

If not as inflammatory as his rhetoric, Glenn Beck on Tuesday debuted a live-streaming Web TV network that's sure to ruffle a few feathers.

The brainchild of Beck's multimedia production company Mercury Radio Arts, GBTV will charge $4.95 a month for Beck's daily show and $9.95 for a full slate of original and licensed on-demand programming.

Along with the domain name, GBTV.com, Mercury Radio Arts recently filed a trademark for a straightforward logo and the tagline: "The Truth Lives Here."

While details remain scarce, the network is also expected to carry advertising.

Beck's two-hour show, named "Glenn Beck," isn't expected to premiere until Sept. 12, at which point it should stream daily at 5 pm. In addition to Beck's new show, GBTV will launch with two other programs: A six-camera simulcast of Glenn's three-hour radio show and "The 4th Hour" starring Pat Gray and Stu Burguiere.

"Lots of people are talking about the digital content revolution, but few are willing to risk it all and place a huge bet on the future," said Christopher Balfe, president and COO of Mercury Radio Arts, who will now oversee all of GBTV. "With GBTV, Mercury is doing just that."

The network is expected to eventually add a number of scripted and unscripted shows to its slate of offerings. Until then, the GBTV network will offer various programming, including a behind-the-scenes take on the making of the network.

MLB Advanced Media, which streams Major League Baseball games online, is powering GBTV, while Clear Channel has signed on to promote the network. While Beck is known for juggling multiple projects, GBTV can expect more of his attention when he leaves his Fox News show at the end of the month.

Showing a broad interest in online trends, Mercury Radio Arts also unveiled a Groupon-like daily deal site dubbed MarkDown.com. Having joined Mercury Radio Arts earlier this year, onetime Fox News executive Joel Cheatwood, will serve as GBTV's president of programming.
