Starbucks Reorganizes; Intros Low-Cal Meals

  • July 12, 2011
Reflecting its globally focused strategy -- and in particular in preparation for China to become its largest market -- Starbucks Corp. is moving to a three-tiered organizational structure.

The company currently has U.S. and international divisions. Now, it will have three divisions:  Americas, China/Asia Pacific, and Europe/Middle East/Africa, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Current international division president John Culver will head the China/Asia Pacific division, while current U.S. division president Cliff Burrows will expand his role to handle Canada, Mexico and Latin America, as well. Seattle's Best Coffee president Michelle Gass will move over to head the third, EMEA, division.

Separately, Starbucks is launching Bistro Boxes: small, under-500-calorie meals that include Chipotle Chicken Wraps and Sesame Noodles. Price: under $7.

The low-cal meals intro follows the success of Starbucks' Petites desserts, launched in March. The small desserts have exceeded expectations, Starbucks told USA Today.
