Can a luxury car company be a luxury car company without a high-end flagship? As Cadillac works to be the apotheosis of premium automakers it was decades ago, the company still has only one luxury
sedan (with variants), the CTS. It has tried to work the same magic with the larger STS, but hasn't succeeded in making sparks. So, it has nothing to offer versus BMW's 7-Series and Mercedes-Benz
S-Class cars.
For now at least. No, it wouldn't be the XTS sedan launching next year (and shown as concept at the Detroit auto show last year.) The car would be more like the Sixteen
super-luxury concept that the automaker showed as a concept back in 2003. But at half the price. The flagship doesn't have a name, and it's safe to say it won't have 16 cylinders under the hood. And
it is, apparently, unlikely to go on sale before 2015.
