Barnes & Noble says that while its first-quarter sales rose just 2% to $1.4 billion, sales of digital content quadrupled, and that its Nook e-reader is still selling well. Sales through BN.com
increased 37% as compared to the prior year, to $198 million, driven by strong demand for the NOOK product line, and a fourfold increase in digital content. At its stores, however, comparable sales
slipped 3%. For the first quarter, the company reported a consolidated net loss of $57 million.
