Omniture reported yesterday that the war against Iraq is having a negative affect on web traffic. According to an independent report generated by Omniture, Internet traffic data remained consistent
until March 17th; the date President Bush issued the ultimatum to Saddam Hussein. Since that time, in all content and commerce segments other than national news there has been a steady decline in web
traffic which now measures 15% below expected levels. For this report, Omniture analyzed visitor data from hundreds of sites averaging more than 15 million page view per day. "There are many factors
that affect the level of web traffic to a particular site," said Josh James, CEO of Omniture. "What is interesting about this event is that we are seeing a global affect across all types of websites
including eCommerce sites and local news/media sites. It is rare to see an event translate across the board."
