Coca-Cola, UN Team On Women's Empowerment

  • September 28, 2011
The Coca-Cola Company is partnering on a global basis with United Nations's UN Women initiative to promote women's economic empowerment.

The partnership ties together the missions of Coca-Cola's 5 BY 20 initiative (to economically empower five million female entrepreneurs across the company's markets by 2020) and the UN Women's Strategic Plan (spanning a range of initiatives, including supporting equal rights laws and encouraging companies to adopt Women's Empowerment Principles, a set of measures geared to empowering women in the marketplace and workplace).

Coca-Cola has signed a statement of support for the Empowerment Principles, and the company and UN Women are identifying by-country opportunities in areas including business training skills programs for female-owned recycling cooperatives and women-run shops.
