Big Changes At Hearst

  • February 23, 2003
Friday was a big day at day at Hearst. Valerie Salembier, who has served as vice president and publisher of Hearst's Esquire since 1996, was named senior vice president and publisher of Harper's Bazaar. Replacing her will be men's magazine veteran Kevin O'Malley, who makes his return to Esquire, where he was advertising director from 1987-1992. At Esquire, Salembier helped lead the men's title in 2002 to its best year in the past decade. O'Malley was most recently president of Emap USA's Sports Division, where, since August 2000, he oversaw a number of men's sports-focused publications. Prior to that, he served as vice president/publisher of Men's Journal, where he helped shift the title from its sports-and-fitness focus into a men's general-interest magazine.
