NBC News Brand Back On Radio

  • February 25, 2003
Radio network Westwood One will return the NBC Radio News brand to the air for the first time in years next month, vowing to only use top personalities from NBC and MSNBC. Tom Brokaw, Brian Williams and John Seigenthaler, among other NBC and MSNBC talent will voice the short top-of-the hour reports for the service that starts March 31. Westwood One will also offer NBC-branded sportscasts and entertainment reports. NBC News president Neal Shaprio says the partnership makes sense for them. “The power of NBC News already extends across the broadcast network, our cable channels and the Internet, now we can add radio to the list.” Westwood One debuts the network at a perfect time, as many stations are putting together their news plans in case the US goes to war in Iraq. Westwood is an operating company owned by Viacom, which owns CBS. Westwood One gained the rights to the NBC name after it acquired NBC Radio Network in 1986.
