  • November 11, 2011

Nordstrom, which says it has been increasing its investment in e-commerce initiatives, reports that third-quarter sales spiked 14.2% to $2.38 billion compared with sales of $2.09 billion during the same period in fiscal 2010. (Same-store sales rose 7.9%.) Net earnings for the period rose 7.2% to $127 million, from $119 million.

The Seattle-based retailer says top-performing categories included designer, handbags and dresses. And at its Nordstrom Rack business, same-store sales increased 6.8%. The company also says its selling, general and administrative expenses increased $101 million, in part due to various initiatives to boost its e-commerce business, including HauteLook operating and purchase accounting expenses, and improvements in the shopping experience across channels.
