Cox Communications announced Tuesday the deployment of its new Digital Video Recorder service in northern Virginia. The DVR service marks what Cox calls the next step in bringing customers more
service and entertainment. In February, Cox announced a full-market trial of the DVR service in Gainesville, Fla. Cox VP of Video Product Development Lynne Elander said the DVR service, along with
high-definition service and high-speed Internet, differentiates it from its competition. In northern Virginia, Cox is deploying the Scientific-Atlanta Explorer 8000 digital video recorder, which
functions as an all-in-one digital set-top box and DVR. Customers must subscribe to digital cable, and the monthly fee for DVR service is $9.99 a month along with a monthly lease of $9.99 for the
integrated DVR STB.
