Verizon FiOS Launches Fidelity-Branded Ticker

Verizon FiOS customers don’t have be tuned into CNBC to follow the ups and downs of the financial markets. A recently launched app allows stock quotes, charts and financial news to appear on the right side of the screen, while programming runs alongside.

Using the Fidelity Market Monitor, a viewer can create a watch list with up to 25 stocks and mutual funds to track in near real-time, while there is a search option to access a specific quote with a few clicks of the remote.

The free app is available to all of Verizon’s approximately 4 million subscribers, who can also tap into Facebook and Twitter and have the opportunity to make HSN purchases with the remote control.

Sean Belka, a Fidelity senior vice president, stated that the company is engaged in “ongoing efforts to introduce technology innovations that enable Fidelity to be there for investors on the platforms and services that they use every day.”

The Market Monitor is also available for users of HP's TouchPad, while Fidelity has released an upgraded iPad app. Fidelity manages $1.3 trillion in assets and does a significant amount of national TV advertising. Noting that Verizon is the first cable/satellite/telco TV operator to offer the widget, Fidelity may look to others for the branding exposure.
