Staples Gives $250,000 In TV Ads To Small Businesses

Staples says it will give away $250,000 in TV ad money to five worthy small businesses, in a “Give Your Small Business the Push It Needs” contest. To win, businesses need to produce a winning 15-second video. The Framingham, Mass.-based retailer says winners can choose to take $50,000 in airtime in local cable ads, or $40,000 in airtime plus $10,000 cash. “Successfully marketing your small business is the life blood of any company, but with limited budgets, entrepreneurs must be creative and resourceful,” it says in its release. Announced in conjunction with its 6th annual small-business survey, Staples also reports that 66% of small business owners have some type of marketing and advertising budget for 2012, with an average of $2,000. And 60% have altered their sales and marketing programs as a direct result of the economy, with 29% reporting they are using less traditional media, and 33% using viral marketing and word-of-mouth.
