“The opposite side of social shopping is social production,” Lance Neuhauser, CEO of The Echo System, just explained during the “social shopping” panel at the Social Media Insider Summit.

That’s a paradigm shift, he said, because, “It causes organizations to think completely differently about their businesses.”

Neuhauser noted that this shift changes everything about sourcing, producing and distributing products, and ultimately will lead to just-in-time manufacturing with little or no wastage. Even more interestingly, he predicted that next generation 3D printers that are capable of printing with plastic and metal and utilizing silver ink that can “print” circuit boards in your home will shift the means of production from the factory to, well, you – personally.
