Who Needs Emeril? Safeway Launches Chef Search

  • February 22, 2012

With America hot for cooking shows, Safeway is inviting chefs around the country to compete for a job in its test kitchens. The winner, who will also have his or her recipe included in Safeway’s new Open Nature Skillet Meal, will be selected in a final cook-off, by a panel of judges including chef Alexandra Guarnaschelli, who appears on Food Network's "Chopped" and "Iron Chef."  The contest promotes the new line, which is 100% natural.

"We are the first to host a major competition where a talented chef has the opportunity to win a new job and develop a product that will be on the shelf in a major national grocery store," says the Pleasanton, Calif.-based chain in its release.

Regional cook-offs, which fans can follow through Facebook, are slated for the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Seattle and Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Chicago in April, with the final competition scheduled for May.
