Do viewers of Samsung’s 2012 top-of-the-line plasmas and LED HDTVs have reason to fear for their privacy? These TVs offer "new features never before available within a television, including a built-in, internally wired HD camera" that "may allow hackers or even Samsung to see and hear you and your family, and collect extremely personal data," writes the HD Guru.
"Samsung has not released a privacy policy clarifying what data it is collecting and sharing," continues the Guru, who lists a whole host of concerns, beginning with "Can Samsung or Samsung-authorized companies watch you watching your Samsung TV?"
Handling the camera is easy. A small strip of black electrical tape strategically placed over the lens will take care of it. The microphone, though, is a little harder to handle. How about one of those audio mood enhancers set to the sound of surf right next to the pickup? Some enterprising manufacturer could make a killing selling white noise audio generators that you can attach at the microphone pickup point.
We are begging to be controlled.
