Amazon.com Sues 11 Online Marketers

  • August 26, 2003
Amazon.com has filed a host of lawsuits seeking to prevent 11 online marketers from sending e-mails falsely identified as coming from the company. The company is asking for punitive damages as a deterrent to other would-be web "spoofers." Amazon also settled its claim against Cyebye.com, one of the companies that allegedly sent the forged e-mails. "Spoofing is forgery, and we're going after spoofers to the full extent of the law," said Amazon vice president and associate general counsel David Zapolsky in a press release. The company has set up an e-mail address, stop-spoofing@amazon.com, for consumers to report messages they believe to be forgeries.
