Senate Panel OKs One-Year Delay of Ownership Cap

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a measure that would delay for a year the FCC's proposed easing of the TV station ownership cap. Since the FCC revised its rules on June 2, both Congress and the courts have weighed in on the matter. It's likely that the Senate's move will force the FCC to rethink a rule that would have allowed a company to have stations in 45% of the national audience, up from the current 35%. It's also coming on the heels of a decision by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia, which told the FCC it couldn't enact any of its new media rules until it reviewed them fully.
