The New York Times Company has tapped Michael Golden as publisher of the International Herald Tribune. Golden, the NYT Company's vice chairman and senior vice president, will oversee the paper's journalistic and business operations, reporting to both NYT Company chairman Arthur Sulzberger Jr. and senior vice president for newspaper operations Janet Robinson.

"Having served as a director of the IHT for six years, Michael knows the international newspaper business very well," Robinson said in a press release. "His knowledge and background will be extraordinarily useful in expanding the IHT's journalistic presence and strengthening its business impact." Golden was elected to the board of directors and named vice chairman and SVP of the NYT Company in 1997, after having served as vice president for operations development since 1996. Before that he held posts at Tennis magazine and with the NYT Company's Women's Publishing Division.
