B&N Opening U.K. Nook Store

Barnes & Noble is expanding its Nook business to the U.K. through a new storefront launching this fall. The new www.nook.co.uk site, marking the booksellers first international foray, will debut in mid-October with e-reading devices in the line including the Nook Simple Touch and Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight. U.K. shoppers will also be able to browse the Nook Store's 2.5 million titles.

Barnes & Noble also said its planning to soon announce partnerships with leading U.K. Retailers to support the Nook launch through both physical stores and online channels. Additional details on product and pricing are to be released in the next few weeks.

Last week, the company cut the price on its 16 GB Nook Tablet by $50 to $199 and the 8 GB version by $20 to $179. It also dropped the price of the Nook Color from $199 to $149 as it seeks to better compete with the Kindle Fire and other 7-inch Android-based tablets. The Nook has only captured a small fraction of the tablet market still dominated by the iPad, with 68% share, according to IDC.
