Wi-Fi provider Boingo Wireless in June launched a partnership with Google Offers to sponsor free Wi-Fi at more than 200 hotspots in Manhattan, including six subway stations through Sept. 7. Now, that deal is being expanded nationally, with Google Offers sponsoring free and discounted Wi-Fi at eight malls and 16 airports in major cities, including Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C. and Seattle.
The airports include New York’s John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia, Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway airports, and Houston’s Hobby and George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Boingo said the nationwide Wi-Fi sponsorship has no specific cut-off date, but will last until the end of summer or early fall.
The step comes just a couple of weeks after Boingo announced acquiring start-up Cloud Nine Media, which offers Wi-Fi sponsorships at more than 6,000 airports, hotels, bars, restaurants and other public areas in the U.S. and Canada.
