Yahoo Names Savitt as New CMO

Yahoo on Monday announced hiring veteran marketing executive Kathy Savitt as its new chief marketing officer starting September 14. Savitt was most recently founder and CEO of social commerce site Lockerz.com, which claims 45 million unique users. Prior to starting Lockerz in 2009, Savitt was CMO of apparel retailer American Eagle Outfitters, and prior to that was a senior executive at Amazon. As president of MWW Savitt, she also consulted with Fortune 500 clients.

In her new role, she will report directly to Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer. Elisa Steele, Yahoo's prior CMO left the company in December lead marketing efforts at Skype. Savitt's hiring is the second signficant appointment Mayer has made since she was named as Yahoo chief executive in mid-July. Last week, Ron Bell was promoted to general counsel at the company.
