With the tag-team of early NFL coverage on Sunday and what turned out to be the final game of the World Series, Fox scored a rare Sunday night win over NBC.

Fox took a Nielsen preliminary 6.3 rating/16 share among 18-49 viewers, besting NBC's 5.1/12 for the night.

While NBC grabbed top honors with its "Sunday Night Football" for a show starting in prime time with a 6.3/14, Fox gained strong results from its late afternoon/early evening NFL overrun coverage that took in a big 9.8/26 during the 7 p.m. hour of primetime.

Later in the evening, the fourth and final game of the World Series gave the San Francisco Giants its second title in three years, beating the Detroit Tigers. The game earned a 3.7/8 with the game going into extra innings and ending just before midnight Eastern time. This was in line with ratings of the previous games, a 3.6/10 for Game One and a 3.5/10, Game Two.

Saturday night's Game Three of the World Series took a 2.4/8. It had major competition from a big ABC evening college football game between Notre Dame and Oklahoma, which earned a 2.5/8.

NBC actually witnessed a 5% rise in ratings for the New Orleans Saints-Denver Broncos "Sunday Night Football" game versus the previous week, which came in at a 6.0 rating.

Some of the usual strong non-Sports Sunday competitors had a mixed night. ABC's powerful "Once Upon a Time" at 8 p.m. actually grew week-to-week, landing at a 3.4/8, up 3% on the night.  ABC's "Revenge" at 9 p.m. was down a bit to a 2.7/6. CBS' "Amazing Race" at 8 p.m. was down two-tenths of a rating point to a 2.4/6.

Well behind Fox and NBC, ABC was at 2.3/6, then CBS, a 1.9/5 and Univision at 1.1/3.
