SBC Pulls Out the Stops

  • July 23, 2004
Deploying several tactics at once, SBC Communications has announced a host of Wi-Fi partnerships and deals today spanning the country. The communications company plans to extend their reach and maximize traffic passing across locations they currently operate by reselling access to its FreedomLink network, namely, to Caribou Coffee and UPS. In addition, current FreedomLink subscribers will have access to airport service for a roaming fee of $4 per day, instead of charging a monthly fee. SBC will also begin selling a large number of home Wi-Fi gateways to SBC Yahoo! DSL customers daily at a significant discount. With the onslaught of these discounts and additions in late 2004, the company hopes to become more of a key player in the reselling and home Wi-Fi markets.
