JWT Loses Top Creative Olmos

WPP ad shop JWT is losing one of its top creative executives at the end of the year, the agency has confirmed.

Fernando Vega Olmos, chairman of JWT's Worldwide Creative Council and creative chairman, Continental Europe and Latin America, is leaving to pursue other interests, according to the agency.

It’s believed Vega Olmos is departing to form a new venture. In the past, he founded two ad agencies before joining JWT in 2008.

Bob Jeffrey, JWT Worldwide Chairman and CEO, stated that Vega Olmos “has been a great partner and champion of worldmade work for JWT.”  Worldmade is a reference to the agency’s creative philosophy: The diverse world around it inspires all the work that comes out of the agency.

Prior to joining JWT, Vega Olmos, a native of Argentina, was the executive creative director at Ratto/BBDO and executive creative director and Partner at Casares Grey, both based in Argentina. He was the first Argentinean to win a Gold Lion at Cannes in 1992. The two agencies he founded were Vega Omos Ponce in 1997 and Lola in 2006.

It’s not clear at this point when or if Vega Olmos will be replaced. Jeffrey said the agency is “taking time to reflect and consider whether we will replace Fernando’s role as chairman of this council.” He added that the agency’s senior creative leadership team worldwide remains in place.
