Schiekofer To Digital President For MEC

Susan-SchiekoferHeading for AOL, Jack Bamberger is out at MEC, where he served as president of digital in North America for the past six months. Taking his place is Susan Schiekofer, who most recently led the AT&T digital team at the WPP media shop.

“The good news is that the hard part of building a practice and having the talent is mostly done; it’s all upside from here and we’re ready to take our clients to the next level,” Schiekofer explained in an email.

That doesn’t mean Schiekofer's job will be easy. “We have dozens of extremely active digital clients with whom we’re doing innovative work,” Schiekofer said. “It’s harder to carve out time to talk to new clients about how we can help them be leaders in the digital space.”

Andy Wasef has also been promoted to head of innovation and technology for North America. Wasef previously served as head of mobile and emerging platforms at MEC. In their new roles, both Schiekofer and Wasef now report to Marla Kaplowitz, MEC’s CEO in North America.

Kaplowitz herself only joined MEC about a year ago. She was formerly EVP and managing director at MediaVest.

According to Schiekofer, MEC does digital work for all its clients, while its digital spend in the U.S. is approximately 25% of total spend. “We have developed a proprietary social data analysis tool for our clients that provides valuable insight into the effectiveness of social media,” Schiekofer said. “We also have leadership and tools in the areas of performance marketing, search and attribution modeling that will be leveraged for all pertinent existing clients as well as clients we will bring on board.”

MEC is trying to regain its footing after recently losing Macy’s -- and what is estimated to a $500 million media assignment -- to Aegis Group's Carat.

At AOL, Bamberger will serve as its new head of agency and industry relations.
