Havas Media has won global media planning and buying duties for luxury hotel group Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, the agency has confirmed. The account will be handled by the shop’s Asia-Pacific operation in Hong Kong.
The appointment came after a review that included Starcom and OMD. Search consultant R3 managed the pitch process, and creative was not part of the review. The client’s advertising tagline, “It’s In Our Nature,” was developed by WPP’s Ogilvy & Mather in 2010.
In the U.S., the Hong Kong-based hotel chain spent $2.5 million on ads in 2011. Global spending was not immediately available.
Stuart Clark, managing director of Havas Media International APAC, stated: “Shangri-La Hotels is a brand synonymous with Asian luxury and hospitality... We will leverage all our specialist resources in international and Luxury marketing to help them build on that platform in 2013 and beyond.”
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts currently has 76 hotels and resorts throughout Asia-Pacific, North America, the Middle East and Europe and a room inventory of over 30,000. New hotels are under development in mainland China, India, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
As part of its corporate citizen initiative, which ties to its nature tagline, the chain recently developed a “Care For Panda” project under which it agreed to plant thousands of bamboo trees at a Chinese Panda preserve.
