Bloomie's Blows Out Chinese New Year

  • January 10, 2013

Who says the holidays are over? Bloomingdale’s is celebrating Chinese New Year with events, merchandising initiatives and pop-up shops, through Feb. 18. The idea is to celebrate not just the holiday, “but the entire Chinese culture,” says CEO Michael Gould in its release.  “It is our hope that Chinese consumers and tourists, along with all of our loyal shoppers, will enjoy the festive holiday and culture rooted in tradition.”

Customers at the chain’s New York, Chicago and San Francisco stores can even claim a traditional red envelope, with such prizes as bMoney cards in the amount of $8, $88, or $888, complimentary Taro Root flavor yogurt, and limited-edition Chinese shopping totes. Pop-up shops will be filled with clothing and home décor celebrating all things Chinese, as well as special offers for international tourists. (A Bloomingdale’s welcome guidebook in simplified Chinese is also available at some stores, with nearly 200 associates speaking either Cantonese or Mandarin.) Bloomingdale's is owned by Macy's.
