Obama Signs Law Allowing Netflix-Facebook Integration

  • January 11, 2013

President Barack Obama reportedly signed a bill on Thursday that enables Facebook and Netflix to integrate. The measure amends the federal Video Privacy Protection Act -- a 1988 law that prohibits video rental companies from sharing information about movies watched by consumers without their written permission. The modification specifies that consumers can consent in advance to the disclosure of information about which movies they watch. People can withdraw consent at any time, but even if they don't, the consent will expire automatically after two years.
